•    Are your shoes scuffed?  We can help.  Bring them in and let us clean them up for you.
•    Did you get a new pair of heels for the holidays?  Have a pair you love?  Bring them in to get a cap put on the heel.  A cap will help prevent normal wear and tear and make your heels last longer.
•    We can also put caps on other types of shoes as well as replacing the soles of your shoes.  You can also add rubber soles to your shoes in order to help them last longer and to prevent slips and falls.

You’ve booked the trip, packed the bags, and made it to the airport for your flight.  However, when you get there, you discover that your flight has been delayed.  What to do?  This has been a common occurrence the past few months.  Jamestown Shoe and Luggage Service offers these tips on what to do if your flight is delayed or cancelled:

•    Be prepared for delays.  They might occur due to weather, mechanical issues, the flight crew needing mandatory breaks, or more.
•    Know your rights.  Each airline has a different contract that specifies what you are entitled to in case of a delay or cancellation.
•    Get on line for customer service but also get on the phone.  Calling the airline directly is sometimes faster than waiting for a person.  Even better, reach out to the airline on social media.
•    Be aware that there might be more customer service agents for your airline in a different part of the airport.  Those customer service agents might have less wait times.
•    Pack your patience.  Be calm and polite when speaking with ticket agents.  A little kindness can go a long way in getting you re-booked or set-up with food/hotel vouchers
•    Pack an extra outfit, snacks, and essentials in your carry-on bag.  That way, if you’ve checked your luggage and are stuck at the airport, you have access to necessary items. 
•    If you have been delayed and are traveling with children, try and entertain the kids.  Let them run around the terminal in empty parts of the airport, see if the airport has a kid play area, let them play with the iPad or phone, make up games to play, have a long sit-down meal, bring out a toy and let them play with it, buy them something at the airport gift shop.  If you will have a long delay, then consider actually leaving the airport and exploring the surrounding area.
•    On your own or without kids, consider working, starting a new book, playing on your screens, having a nice meal, people watch, grab a drink, walk around, or shop at the airport stores.

Halloween is around a week away.  Many more people will be out celebrating the holiday this year.  Jamestown Shoe and Luggage Service wants you to be safe and have fun this Halloween.  Here are a few tips and ideas:

•    Make sure that your child’s shoes are comfortable to walk in.  Shoes that come with costumes such as plastic heels are probably not the best option for a night of trick or treating
•    Consider re-purposing shoes to go along with your child’s costume.  For example, use paint or embellishments to change the shoe
•    Make sure your child can be seen.  Wear light-colored costumes, have a flashlight, attach reflective tape to their costume, or have them carry a glow stick
•    Make sure your child’s costume isn’t dragging on the ground so they don’t fall
•    Accompany your child while they are trick or treating
•    Watch for cars, cross at crosswalks, and walk on sidewalks when possible
