•    Be prepared for delays.  They might occur due to weather, mechanical issues, the flight crew needing mandatory breaks, or more.
•    Know your rights.  Each airline has a different contract that specifies what you are entitled to in case of a delay or cancellation.
•    Get on line for customer service but also get on the phone.  Calling the airline directly is sometimes faster than waiting for a person.  Even better, reach out to the airline on social media.
•    Be aware that there might be more customer service agents for your airline in a different part of the airport.  Those customer service agents might have less wait times.
•    Pack your patience.  Be calm and polite when speaking with ticket agents.  A little kindness can go a long way in getting you re-booked or set-up with food/hotel vouchers
•    Pack an extra outfit, snacks, and essentials in your carry-on bag.  That way, if you’ve checked your luggage and are stuck at the airport, you have access to necessary items. 
•    If you have been delayed and are traveling with children, try and entertain the kids.  Let them run around the terminal in empty parts of the airport, see if the airport has a kid play area, let them play with the iPad or phone, make up games to play, have a long sit-down meal, bring out a toy and let them play with it, buy them something at the airport gift shop.  If you will have a long delay, then consider actually leaving the airport and exploring the surrounding area.
•    On your own or without kids, consider working, starting a new book, playing on your screens, having a nice meal, people watch, grab a drink, walk around, or shop at the airport stores.
